HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT

Safety, health and environmental performance are fundamental to how WESMAR plans and delivers every project.

WESMAR applies a risk-based approach to health, safety and environmental management, with leadership accountability, critical risk controls, environmental stewardship and continual improvement embedded across project delivery.

We focus on preventing harm through strong leadership, effective risk management, critical control verification, workforce engagement and continuous improvement.

SAFETY LEADERSHIP

Safety is a leadership responsibility at every level of WESMAR. Our leaders are accountable for establishing clear expectations, providing the resources required to work safely and actively engaging with our workforce to identify and manage risk.

We expect everyone at WESMAR to take ownership of safety and to intervene when conditions or behaviours present unacceptable risk.

CRITICAL RISK MANAGEMENT

WESMAR focuses on the identification and effective control of activities that have the potential to cause serious injury, fatality or significant environmental harm.

Critical risks are managed through structured planning, risk assessment, defined controls, competent personnel and verification of control effectiveness.

Our approach is designed to ensure that critical controls are understood, implemented and maintained throughout project execution.

RISK-BASED PROJECT PLANNING

HSE considerations are integrated into project planning from the earliest stages of delivery.

WESMAR applies a risk-based approach to scope development, constructability, resource planning, methodology, sequencing and execution.

Hazards are identified early and controls are incorporated into project plans, work methodologies and site execution requirements before work commences.

OUR PEOPLE

Our people are closest to the work and play a critical role in identifying hazards, improving controls and preventing incidents.

WESMAR encourages open reporting, consultation and participation across all levels of the organisation. Workers are empowered to raise concerns, challenge unsafe conditions and stop work where an unacceptable risk exists.

STOP WORK AUTHORITY

Every WESMAR employee and contractor has the authority and responsibility to stop work where they believe an immediate or uncontrolled risk exists.

Work will only recommence once the risk has been assessed, appropriate controls established and the relevant personnel are satisfied that work can safely proceed.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

WESMAR is committed to minimising the environmental impact of our activities and protecting the environments in which we operate.

Environmental risks are identified and managed through project planning, operational controls, monitoring and continual improvement.

Our approach focuses on pollution prevention, responsible resource use, waste minimisation, environmental incident prevention and compliance with applicable legislation and client requirements.

INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

HSE, quality and environmental performance are integrated into the way WESMAR plans, controls and delivers work.

Our Integrated Management System provides a consistent framework for managing risk, quality, environmental performance, compliance and continual improvement across our operations.

This integrated approach supports reliable project delivery while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and environmental performance.

ASSURANCE & VERIFICATION

WESMAR uses assurance and verification processes to confirm that critical controls, management system requirements and project standards are effectively implemented.

Site inspections, audits, observations, inspections and performance reviews are used to identify opportunities for improvement and verify that required standards are being maintained.

LEARNING & CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

WESMAR actively promotes the reporting and investigation of incidents, hazards, near misses and improvement opportunities.

We focus on understanding underlying causes and implementing effective corrective actions rather than simply addressing immediate symptoms.

Lessons learned are communicated across our operations and incorporated into future planning and work practices where appropriate.

CONTRACTOR & SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

WESMAR expects our contractors and suppliers to operate to standards consistent with our HSE, quality and environmental requirements.

Contractors are appropriately assessed, inducted and monitored based on the nature and risk profile of their activities.

We work collaboratively with our supply chain to ensure risks are understood, controls are implemented and performance expectations are maintained.

COMPETENCY & TRAINING

WESMAR recognises that competent people are fundamental to safe and effective project delivery.

Personnel are selected, trained and authorised based on the requirements of their roles and the risks associated with their work.

We maintain appropriate competency, training and verification requirements to support our workforce in performing their responsibilities safely and effectively.
